Marc Rey is a seasoned professional who always brings a fresh, multi-dimensional perspective to his industry. With successes in entrepreneurial startups and global leaders, Marc is a change agent who challenges status quo and knows how to enable turnaround or growth acceleration momentum. He combines a unique mix of strategic, multi-industry, multi-channel and multi-country experience, as well as a solid track record in general management positions.
Rey serves as the President & CEO of Shiseido Americas ($1.7MM in sales, 5,000 employees) a division of Shiseido Co. Ltd., a leading global beauty company. He is responsible for overseeing and managing the Americas organization and Shiseido’s brands and businesses in the U.S., including Shiseido Cosmetics America, Beauté Prestige International USA, NARS Cosmetics, Bare Escentuals, Laura Mercier and RéVive, as well as the Company’s subsidiaries in Canada and Brazil. He oversees Shiseido’s Makeup Center of Excellence, which is responsible for growing the makeup category worldwide, as well as the Company’s Digital Center of Excellence, also based in New York City. Rey also serves as the Global Strategic Brand Holder for Bare Escentuals, NARS, Laura Mercier, and Revive, and is a member of the Company’s global executive committee.
Prior to joining Shiseido, Rey worked at Coty as the president of Coty USA and Regional Vice President North America. In this role he managed a rich portfolio of beauty brands including Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Bottega Veneta, Rimmel, O.P.I, and philosophy, which positioned Coty as the leader in fragrance. In addition to his regional responsibilities, Rey was in charge of the global expansion of O.P.I and philosophy beyond North America.
Prior to joining Coty, Rey served as the President of the International Designer Collection at L’Oréal USA, managing 16 beauty brands, including Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Flowerbomb. Notably, Rey first came to the U.S. to turn around the YSL Beauty business. Under his leadership, the business doubled in size in the following four years.
Earlier in his career, Rey held positions at Dannon food in Mexico, Johnson & Johnson in the division of ROC, and Neutrogena skincare in Europe. He also worked at McKinsey, managing projects in France, Spain and China.
Rey is a trustee of the French American School of New York and a board and executive committee member of the Personal Care Products Council.
He holds an MBA from ESCP Europe in Paris and an AMP from Harvard Business School.
